Special Survey: Sound Walls
Dear
Neighbor:
Caltrans
is pushing a plan to erect sound walls along Highway 13 involving
the removal of hundreds of trees and shrubs. Sound from
traffic may still not be reduced but may be heightened bouncing up
the hills. In addition, there is a fear that the walls may
attract graffiti.
Caltrans
has failed to provide adequate alternatives to the community.
I believe there are solutions to reducing the sound of traffic that
are less expensive and more effective than sound walls. Some
options include sound proofing the affected homes with multiple
paned glass windows and constricting "living walls" of
plants that will reduce sound.
Citizens
have not had adequate information, nor the opportunity to voice
their concerns. The public deserves to have all the facts
about the sound walls.
After
months of talking to thousands of area residents as a candidate for
city council, I know we value the beautiful natural environment of
our area. If you agree with me and want to help stop the sound
walls, please sign the enclosed survey and return it to me
today. If you disagree with me, let me know. I will use
these surveys to show Caltrans just how local residents feel.
Sincerely,
