Special Survey: Council to Double Parking Fines

>Plus: Survey Results - Partial Victory!

Dear Neighbor:

Did you know that this week the City Council Public Works Committee voted to double the price of parking tickets to $64 for a street sweeping ticket?  Did you know that they are going to spend $50,000 of city funds to “sell” the idea to Oakland residents?

On October 1, the City Council will vote to increase the price of parking fines by 100%.  We all want clean streets, but this measure basically creates a new unfair tax.

Oakland’s present street sweeping fine at $32 is already one of the highest in the Bay Area – San Francisco charges $30 and Berkeley charges $20.

In my view, it’s a poorly thought through solution.   What do you think?

If you agree with me and want to help stop the parking fine increase, sign the petition below and I’ll personally deliver the responses to City Hall.

Thanks,
